CORGI RESCUE

Note: We can only accommodate adoptions to these states: MD, PA, VA, DC, NC and WV.

PWCCP Rescue helps displaced Pembroke Welsh Corgis find their "forever" home. Our rescued Corgis come from various situations. Some are from shelters, some are due to a death in the family, some because of family conflicts (human or animal) and some just because their family is moving and the Corgi can’t go with them. Placement in our rescue program does not mean that the Corgi was "bad" or abused. PWCCP does not accept dogs with a known biting history. Please be aware that we usually do not get puppies and most of the time the rescues are often adults over five years old.

Think about why you want a Corgi. A Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a small, short legged herding dog from Wales. They are intelligent, naturally curious, smart and fun loving and high energy. They can be hunters, barkers, and should not be off leash. Corgis can live for 12 to 15 years or longer. A rescue Corgi will require an investment of time and energy and some expense. If you are not willing to make a commitment to a rescue Corgi, maybe another pet would be better suited to you. Please visit www.PWCCA.org for more information on the breed characteristics of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

If you are interested in competing in performance events, it may be possible to receive a Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL). This is a special designation from the American Kennel Club (AKC) for purebred dogs that don’t have papers.

Corgis shed year round with more shedding in spring and summer.  Their double coat requires regular brushing.

All dogs adopted through our rescue program are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed/neutered and treated for any existing medical condition. If placed in our foster program they have been evaluated for personality and behavior. The foster family makes a recommendation for the most suitable adoptive family. We ask for a donation of approximately $400 to cover the expenses of our program payable at the time of adoption.

If you are interested in adopting a Corgi from us please complete the questionnaire/application. The application form is available as a MS Word fillable form that will download when you click the link. If you are not able to use the MS WORD file, you may download this pdf version of the questionaire/application.

We don't post pictures or info of dogs that are in rescue.

One of the requirements to adopt from us is that you must meet the dog at its foster home. We encourage you to bring all family members living in your home including any canine family members. If for some reason the adoption doesn’t work out we will gladly take the Corgi back. We look for the best possible home for the Corgi. Someone will go to your residence to do a home check.
